Welcome, Researchers!

We've got a range of books on reserve, as well as a NEW EShelf of books available electronically through MultCoLib. You'll need a MultCoLib card to access the EShelf titles. We have a number of students who have applied for a card, and we are waiting to see whether MultCoLib, which closed on March 13th, will continue to process our students' card requests. I'll update you when I learn more. Meanwhile, does anyone in your household have a MultCoLib card? It's time to ask!

We have a number of great databases for political / governmental research. Pay close attention to the names of leaders, groups, political incidents, and dates when important conflicts or political events occurred.

Academic Search Premier (EbscoHost) This link opens in a new window
This is a multi-subject database with full-text articles on a wide range of subjects.
New York Times This link opens in a new window
A great source of fresh, up to date articles on political leaders and current events. Start here to create your yearlong pass to the full text of the New York Times. Once you enter your email address, the NY Times will send an email verification to your Catlin.edu email account. Confirm, and you are all set!
CIA World Factbook This link opens in a new window
Use the drop-down menu on the right side of the screen to select a country. The data includes detailed information about the government, education, health, economics, religions, and political climate of each nation.
Gale in Context: US History This link opens in a new window
Full-text articles from published reference books, journal and magazine articles, biographies, and news stories on US History topics.

A highly useful source of journal articles about politics, government, and political events happening 5-7 years ago or longer. This is NOT the database to use for current events research.

Journal articles relevant to branches of the US military, including technology, materials, strategy, and geopolitical information.
Google Advanced Search This link opens in a new window
Use Advanced Search to track down those .gov and .org think tanks and governmental entities that have published reports online.

Seriously, don't start here, as the coverage can be spotty and disorganized. It is a good option, however, for finding some supplementary reports, conference proceedings, and journal articles that academics have posted to their course pages or organization's website.

A very useful database for short, accurate information on political leaders, movements, events, and political parties.
